Franks Corner Bar and Grill has become a local favorite in Franschhoek, a valley known for its fine dining. Established by American entrepreneur Frank Rodriguez and chef Reuben Riffel, Franks offers a casual and welcoming atmosphere with a menu of “New-Style American” cuisine.
A Passion Project
Rodriguez, a Franschhoek resident, fell in love with the valley and dreamed of opening a restaurant. He partnered with Riffel, a Franschhoek-born chef, to create a space for both locals and tourists.
Designed for Comfort
The restaurant boasts a contemporary design with a touch of New Orleans flair. The inviting space features wooden floors, leather benches, and custom-made furniture. The color scheme reflects the beers of The Franschhoek Beer Company, co-owned by Rodriguez and Riffel.

Franks offers a refreshing alternative to Franschhoek’s expensive tasting menus. The focus is on elevated, yet simple and fresh food at reasonable prices. Chef Riffel and his team have created a menu that celebrates the diversity of American cuisine, with dishes ranging from classics like corn dogs to contemporary takes on regional specialties.
Menu Highlights
Starters include baba ghanoush, tuna tataki, steamed mussels, and of course, the classic corn dog with house-made ketchup. Main courses feature prime cuts of steak cooked in a Pira charcoal oven, a juicy pork chop with braised red cabbage, and the Nashville Hot Chicken, a spicy take on a Southern classic. Franks is also known for its Sole Meunière, a dish Rodriguez highly recommends.

Franks’ commitment to quality is evident in the details. From hand-cut, triple-cooked chips to house-made mayonnaise and pickles, every ingredient is carefully chosen and prepared. The menu pairs well with The Franschhoek Beer Company’s craft beers, with a tasting tray available to sample all six varieties.
