THE COMING OF SPRING HERALDS A NEW LOOK FOR KLEIN ROOSBOOM WINES
Spring is the time of plans and projects, declares Tolstoy in his great love story Anna Karenina. In the same way, love and renewal is the heart of new labels that adorn the wines of beloved winery Klein Roosboom.
The winery is situated among the hills of the premier wine growing region of Durbanville, just minutes from the Cape Town CBD.
On September 1, Klein Roosboom’s classic range relaunched with a completely new, fresh and timeless look. At the same time, the latest vintages of three wines were released.
Significantly, Spring Day is the birthday of the late Jéan de Villiers, who co-founded Klein Roosboom with his wife, Karin.
“Spring is about renewal, change and optimism. It made sense that this same spirit inherent in our wines was the season to launch the new labels,” says Karin. “We’re very excited to see this dream realised!
“The new labels represent a new direction for Klein Roosboom that give the wines and the work behind them, the recognition we feel they deserve,” she says.
Classically elegant, the new labels stand out for their expression of the love and pursuit of excellence behind the family enterprise of Klein Roosboom. The label project work was undertaken by the family, led by Karin’s daughter Marné Roos, and finalised by the award-winning team at Bravo Design.
Bravo founder and owner Brenden Schwartz says Klein Roosboom was a great project to be involved with. “It was amazing to get to know the family while working on the project with them.”
“It really embraced a co-creation process where both the design team and clients were fully involved in the development. The main aim was premiumisation of the labels while keeping the DNA of the original brand and dialling up its distinctive visual assets. We also developed and introduced the de Villiers crest that now proudly endorses all the labels and shows its provenance,” he says.
The new labels show the De Villiers family crest; and, have added the year 1689 – when the first De Villiers’s arrived in South Africa among the French Huguenots.
The Jéan Sauvignon Blanc, which is one of the wines whose latest vintage is part of the release, will now include a label marked by the footprints of Karin and Jéan’s young granddaughter, also named Jéan. As is tradition at the winery, this label too will carry a new personalised note. The other new vintage wines are the Dear Diary Chardonnay and Marianna Roos Rosé.
Closures on the wines have been converted to gold capsules and carry the Klein Roosboom emblem in black. On the rosé, the closure is white with the logo in silver.

Klein Roosboom is situated off Tygerberg Valley Road, just minutes from Cape Town CBD. It is renowned for its wines as well as a destination for Jéan Restaurant, the farm’s unique wine tasting caves and a variety of other family-friendly experiences.
The wine tasting room is open from Tuesday to Sunday: 10:00 – 17:00. Jéan Restaurant is open on the same days, but from 09:00 – 16:00.
