Cape Town Hidden Gem: Strange Love cocktail lounge
During our quest to uncover the hidden gems of Cape Town, we stumbled upon a newly opened establishment called The Strangelove cocktail lounge. In case the name doesn’t give it away, here’s some more information about this intriguing spot.
Situated at the heart of trendy Salt River within the Hope Distillery, The Strangelove Cocktail Lounge occupies the mezzanine-level tasting room. The ambiance is adorned with minimalist Scandi-style furnishings in dark tones, complemented by lush greenery and wooden accents. Talented bartender Decks presides over a thoughtfully curated selection of delightful cocktails, which can be paired with delectable snacks from the StrangeLove à la carte menu.
During our visit, we had the pleasure of experiencing the House Menu, a meticulously crafted cocktail-and-mini-food pairing served in three courses: aperitifs, mains, and digestifs. This extraordinary offering included the Sbagliato, featuring the house’s Campari-style liquor, vermouth, and prosecco, accompanied by a tantalizing taralli cracker. The El Presidente, a delightful blend of rhum agricole, vermouth, and grenadine, was served alongside rolled labneh and a salted cracker. Lastly, we savored the Gin Alexander, expertly crafted with gin, cacao, and nutmeg, accompanied by a miniature nutmeg macaron.
It’s worth noting that if you’re seeking a substantial meal, this may not be the ideal spot, as the portions are more snack-sized. However, as the establishment continues to evolve, we eagerly anticipate a more extensive menu that complements their exquisite cocktail selection.
