We recently attended the launch of The Greenhouse Restaurant x The Shortmarket Club’s new daytime experience, and Joburg… this one is special. What was once known purely as Sandton’s iconic supper club has officially evolved into a stylish, modern lunch destination and the transformation is flawless.
From the moment you step into the courtyard, the space feels like a little escape: sunlight moving across monochrome tiles, rattan pendants swaying overhead, and greenery cascading from every corner. It’s the kind of atmosphere that slows down your day in the best possible way luxe, warm, and effortlessly social.
A New Chef, A New Era
The star of the launch was newly appointed Head Chef Leigh-Anne Knipe, whose experience at some of SA’s most celebrated restaurants shines through beautifully. Her menu feels fresh, thoughtful, and honestly… delicious without trying too hard.

We tried a few of her hero dishes, and they were standouts:



Sumac-Grilled Chicken Thighs – perfectly tender, bright flavours, and the corn cream brings everything together. Lobster Mac ’n’ Cheese – rich, comforting, and finished with toasted crumbs that add just the right amount of crunch. Pan Con Tomate – simple, elegant, and full of flavour. Almond & Blueberry Mess – a dessert you will think about long after your spoon hits the bottom.
It’s elevated but inviting — fine dining technique without the formality.
