Emirates Launches Industry-First Travel Cover for Greater Peace of Mind

Emirates has become the first airline in the world to introduce a Comprehensive Travel Cover product that combines enhanced travel insurance with airline-managed support during major travel disruptions.

Available to South African travellers from 17 June 2026, the new offering includes trip cancellation protection, baggage delay and loss cover, unlimited medical expenses and emergency evacuation cover worldwide. It also introduces conflict-related medical cover of up to US$25,000 and a complimentary trip extension of up to 30 days if required.

What sets the product apart is Emirates’ added support during disruptions. In certain scenarios, including airspace closures and conflict-related travel interruptions, the airline will provide hotel accommodation and assist customers with alternative travel arrangements. Where possible, Emirates will also rebook affected passengers to their final destination at no additional cost.

Developed in partnership with Travel Guard, the enhanced cover is designed to give travellers greater confidence and flexibility when planning their journeys.

“Listening to customer feedback, we realised that while travel demand remains strong, there was a gap in the market when it came to travel insurance cover,” says Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline. “Together with Travel Guard, we are pleased to offer an enhanced travel insurance product that is as comprehensive as it is reassuring, giving customers added confidence when planning their journeys.”

Russel Antonio, Head of Global Business & Partnerships at Travel Guard, adds: “Our long-standing collaboration with Emirates is grounded in a shared commitment to elevating the customer experience. This new comprehensive travel product offers enhanced protection that sets a new benchmark in the industry and responds to the needs of today’s travellers.”

The Comprehensive Travel Cover can be purchased when booking flights on Emirates’ website or added to existing bookings through the airline’s Manage Booking platform.
