A Deliciously Soulful Sunday: The DStv Delicious Festival Delivers Nostalgia and Local Flavour
The air at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit on Sunday, September 21st, was thick with anticipation. It wasn’t just the delicious food aromas or the vibrant fashion on display; it was the promise of a once-in-a-lifetime musical moment. The DStv Delicious International Food & Music Festival has always been about blending the best of local and international talent, and this year’s Sunday lineup was the perfect embodiment of that spirit.

Before the main event, the stage was a showcase of South Africa’s finest. The legendary Lira made her triumphant return, reminding everyone why she is the queen of Afro-soul. Her performance was radiant and emotional, a true homecoming that resonated with every person in the crowd. We also had the pleasure of being uplifted by gospel powerhouse Joyous Celebration Rewind and captivated by the unique blend of jazz and African melodies from Mandisi Dyantyis. It was a testament to the rich, diverse talent this country has to offer, setting a beautiful and spiritual tone for the evening.
And then, the moment everyone had been waiting for. Ms. Lauryn Hill took the stage. Celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, she delivered a masterclass in performance. Her voice was as powerful and raw as ever, flowing through hits like “Doo Wop (That Thing)” and “Everything Is Everything.” The crowd was a unified choir, singing along to every word, reliving a time when her music was the soundtrack to a generation.

The true highlight, however, was the reunion. When Wyclef Jean joined her, the energy in the stadium shifted. It was a nostalgic, thrilling, and enjoyably raw moment as they revisited the magic of the Fugees. But the surprises didn’t stop there. Lauryn Hill’s sons, Zion Marley and YG Marley, also made special appearances, adding their own flair and carrying on a family legacy of musical greatness. It was a beautiful, full-circle moment that made the night truly unforgettable.

From the soul-stirring local acts to the electrifying international headliners, the DStv Delicious Festival on Sunday was a phenomenal success. It was a fusion of global greatness and hometown pride, all united by a love for good food, great music, and a celebration of our shared heritage. It was an experience that truly lived up to its name.
