Unveiling Elegance: Steenberg’s Flagship Wines Enter a Daring New Era

Steenberg, one of South Africa’s most iconic and historic wine estates, has unveiled a bold and sophisticated new visual identity for its flagship wines—marking a striking evolution in luxury wine design. This next chapter was revealed in spectacular fashion at the “Steenberg Skyline & Vine” soirée, held on 10 April 2025 at the exclusive San Deck at Sandton Sun & Towers. The glamorous evening brought together connoisseurs, influencers, and media for a sensory journey of wine, artistry, and innovation.

Design Meets Legacy

Steenberg’s new labels are more than just a facelift—they represent a harmonious blend of heritage and contemporary elegance. With roots dating back to 1682 and founded by the pioneering Catharina Ras, the estate’s refreshed look pays tribute to its storied past while stepping boldly into the future.

“The new flagship wine labels embody Steenberg’s commitment to premium quality and innovation,” says Carryn Wiltshire, Marketing Manager at Steenberg Wines. “They are a visual and tactile expression of the elegance and craftsmanship that define our wines—timeless in quality, yet modern in spirit.”

With this rebrand, Steenberg signals not only a design transformation, but also a reaffirmation of its role as a trailblazer in South African fine wine.

A Rooftop Celebration of Craft and Creativity

The launch event was nothing short of spectacular. Guests entered through an immersive visual tunnel, with LED projections transporting them to the verdant vineyards and historic werf of Steenberg Wine Farm. A mesmerising ballet performance, inspired by the estate’s Black Swan Sauvignon Blanc, captivated the audience, followed by a vibrant musical performance that carried the celebration into the night.

Throughout the evening, exclusive tastings of the newly labelled Black Swan Sauvignon Blanc 2024 and Catharina Red Blend 2021 offered a first look—and sip—of the future of Steenberg. The Black Swan dazzled with its signature minerality and precise acidity, while the Catharina Red Blend offered depth, structure, and a bold nod to its namesake’s legacy.

“Catharina was a visionary—an innovator far ahead of her time,” says Wiltshire. “Her influence is imprinted on everything we do, and this rebrand is an ode to her spirit.”

A New Look for a New Generation of Wine Lovers

The updated packaging features a sleek, nude-toned palette with luxurious hues—deep green for the Black Swan and regal purple for Catharina—drawn from Steenberg’s new corporate identity. The design is both minimalist and deeply symbolic, with embossed illustrations of the estate’s historic cellar, graceful swans, and subtle references to Catharina Ras.

These textural details invite the touch, reinforcing the sense of craftsmanship and refinement within each bottle.

“Our new labels are a declaration of elegance and modern luxury,” says Wiltshire. “They’re designed to command attention, whether on the shelf of a fine wine boutique or in the cellar of a discerning collector.”

Beyond the Bottle: The Essence of Steenberg

Nestled in the Constantia Valley, South Africa’s oldest wine-producing region, Steenberg enjoys a unique terroir shaped by cool maritime breezes and ancient soils. This cool-climate influence is perfectly expressed in the Black Swan Sauvignon Blanc, considered a benchmark for South African Sauvignon Blanc. Meanwhile, the Catharina Red Blend continues to embody strength, finesse, and the legacy of one of the Cape’s most legendary women.

From vineyard to glass, Steenberg remains a beacon of excellence—refining tradition with contemporary flair.

The Beginning of a New Chapter

The newly designed Black Swan Sauvignon Blanc 2024 and Catharina Red Blend 2021 will be available from April 2025 at selected luxury retailers, in the estate’s tasting room, and online through Steenberg’s official store.

“This design reflects who we are now—elegant, bold, and confident,” concludes Wiltshire. “It’s a celebration of Steenberg’s past, present, and future.”
