A Night of Classics: Stellenbosch’s Historic Town Hall Hosts Its First Classical Concert
On November 2, Stellenbosch will unveil a landmark event as the historic town hall hosts its inaugural classical music concert, part of the renowned Garden Town Stellenbosch celebrations. The evening will feature the full Stellenbosch City Orchestra alongside some of South Africa’s leading vocal talents, promising an enchanting experience for all attendees.
The Garden Town Classics concert will serve as the grand finale of the annual Stellenbosch Garden Town, which has been celebrating the region’s rich horticultural heritage since October 25. This beloved event showcases the beauty of the area through open gardens, botanical displays, workshops, and guided garden tours.

“A magical evening of classical music under the stars, set against the backdrop of the town hall – this is Stellenbosch at its finest,” says Elmarie Rabe, marketing manager of Visit Stellenbosch. “By merging our town’s architectural heritage with musical excellence and the beauty of our gardens, we’re creating a signature event we hope will become an annual tradition—just as cherished as other beloved Garden Town activities.”
A Night to Remember
The concert’s program has been meticulously crafted, featuring the Stellenbosch City Orchestra under the baton of Dr. Paul Loeb van Zuilenburg. Attendees can look forward to an exceptional lineup of performers, including sopranos Janel Speelman and Lynelle Kenned, tenor Louis Loock, and baritone Niël Rademan.
The evening promises a captivating blend of classical, musical theatre, and opera, with selections from iconic works such as La Bohème, Die Fledermaus, Les Misérables, The Sound of Music, and Phantom of the Opera.
In keeping with the festival’s garden theme, the program will highlight nature-inspired compositions, including the “Flower Duet” from Lakmé, “Barcarolle” from The Tales of Hoffmann, and the “Vilja Song” from The Merry Widow. Concertgoers will also be treated to orchestral favorites like Strauss’s Blue Danube waltz and excerpts from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.
Arrive Early, Stay Inspired
Guests are encouraged to arrive early to explore a botanical-inspired market within the town hall. Here, you’ll find unique plants, vibrant blooms, and artisanal garden products—perfect for every green thumb to discover.
With so much to see and do, it’s the ideal way to start an unforgettable evening in Stellenbosch before settling in for a spectacular night of classical music under the stars.
