SALON: Cape Town’s Culinary Gem Named Africa’s Best New Restaurant
SALON, the latest signature restaurant by renowned chef Luke Dale Roberts, has been awarded the prestigious title of Africa’s Best New Restaurant at the 2024 World Culinary Awards. The 5th annual ceremony took place on October 2, 2024, at Summersalt, Jumeirah Al Naseem, Dubai, celebrating the pinnacle of culinary excellence.
Since its opening in April 2023, SALON has quickly established itself as a beacon of fine dining in Cape Town. The restaurant features an inventive multi-course menu that draws inspiration from Luke’s illustrious global culinary journey. Initially shaped by his travels over the past two decades, the menu now emphasizes seasonality, integrating diverse influences and ingredients that reflect Luke’s creative vision in collaboration with Executive Chef Carla Schulze, all while embracing a spirit of constant innovation.

The SALON Experience
At SALON, diners are treated to a signature global tasting menu that showcases a rich tapestry of culinary influences. Drawing from Luke’s roots in England, his formative years in Asia, and experiences across Europe and Latin America, the menu features standout dishes like the South African ‘Padkos,’ a playful reimagining of traditional snacks, and a seasonal bread course that highlights the best local ingredients.
The recent addition of rising star sommelier Tadiswa Chikwanha further elevates SALON’s beverage offerings. Her expertise in pairing wines and cocktails enhances the dining experience, ensuring each dish is perfectly complemented.
The global tasting menu is priced at R1690 per person and is available for dinner service. For those seeking a more focused experience, a prix fixe menu is offered at R795 per person, featuring six exquisite courses that highlight the unique blend of culinary artistry and global flavors. An optional beverage pairing menu is available, featuring small-batch wines and signature cocktails that have been thoughtfully curated.
