Durbanville’s Collaborative Sauvignon Blanc Shines Once More
South Africa’s premier cool-climate wine region, Durbanville, is gearing up to unveil the highly anticipated 2024 vintage of its collaborative Sauvignon Blanc. This “super Sauv Blanc,” as it’s become known, is a must-have for any wine enthusiast.
Building on the success of the previous two vintages, the 2024 release features the combined talents of Durbanville’s renowned winemakers. Each year, a different winery takes the lead on blending, and for 2024, the baton passes from De Grendel to the innovative and award-winning Diemersdal.
A Vintage Poised for Greatness
Ideal growing conditions resulted in exceptional grapes, boasting vibrant acidity and a low pH – the perfect recipe for a world-class Sauvignon Blanc. This translates to a wine that shines beautifully upon first sip, but also possesses the potential to develop further complexity with bottle aging.
A Celebration of Collaboration
This year, 10 Durbanville wineries contributed fruit from their finest vineyards, including established names like Diemersdal, De Grendel, Bloemendal, and Meerendal. Diemersdal’s Juandré Bruwer, who co-created the final blend with Mari Branders, expressed his excitement: “The grapes were in top condition, and it was a privilege to craft this exceptional wine.”
A Testament to Durbanville’s Expertise
The collaborative Durbanville Sauvignon Blanc project was born from years of consistent recognition for the region’s excellence in Sauvignon Blanc production. “This wine is a perfect way to showcase the world-class quality of our wines and the collaborative spirit of our producers,” says Durbanville Wine Valley manager Natasha de Villiers.
The region’s reputation was further solidified last year when it hosted the prestigious Concours Mondial du Sauvignon, the first time the competition ventured outside of Europe.
