McCoy Mrubata and the Community Philharmonic Orchestra to Ignite Harmonious Sparks at Emperors Palace
The Legendary Saxophonist, flute player and Composer – McCoy Mrubata – renowned for his passion for grooming talent and community upliftment in the music industry – will be joined by the emergent powerhouse – 30 Piece – Community Philharmonic Orchestra (COMPO) on 21 July 2023 at Emperors Palace.
The evening is set to be galactic, with serenading symphonies, tunes and sounds from the music giants and the Orchestra that has grown by leaps and bounds.
“This is an exciting, history-making moment for me. Having been in the industry for decades, I have always been driven by the passion to unearth and nurture talent. I am delighted to share the stage with the Community Philharmonic Orchestra, whose ethos is the same as mine. I had the pleasure of being a part of the Compo North branch launch in 2022, and since became the patron of Orchestra. We are now sharing a stage to bring avid classic music enthusiasts and those on journey to discover this enchanting type of music an unforgettable experience,” says McCoy Mrubata.
In 2022, Mrubata also had a collaboration with a few members of COMPO on his Double Album launch for his Strings Attached Project, at Artscape.
Desmond Solomon – COMPO Director and Conductor – adds, “We are truly humbled to have a giant like McCoy Mrubata invite us to stage a first of its kind concert. From our humble beginnings, we have been carving our way to big arenas, and we can comfortably say the journey seems promising. Our Philharmonic Orchestra has two branches, one in Cape Town and one in Johannesburg. In 2022 the Cape Town branch staged concerts at Soweto Theatre and Javett Arts Centre in Pretoria in collaboration with the Joburg branch, as well as the Soweto Orchestra known as SSM, to celebrate Mandela Month.”
COMPO will be hosting workshops with junior and senior Orchestras ahead of the big night at Emperor’s Palace. “We are excited to culminate our celebration in a grand way. We look forward to sharing our score with audiences and leave them with notes to remember for years to come,” says Solomon.
