RESTAURANT REVIEW: SALON Restaurant–a love letter to the Palate
We had the pleasure of eating at the SALON recently, and it was a delightful experience. A unique and elegant dining environment is combined with exceptional cuisine at this restaurant located in the heart of Cape Town (Woodstock at the Old Biscuit Mill building). Luke Dale Roberts, owner of the restaurants The Test Kitchen Fledgelings, The Shortmarket Club, The Pot Luck Club Cape Town and Pot Luck Club Johannesburg, is a renowned chef and restaurateur.
The moment we walked in, the welcoming staff made us feel at home with their kindness and hospitality.
Interior:
The interior of the restaurant is tastefully decorated with modern furnishings, creating a chic, and inviting ambiance. The dim lighting added a touch of intimacy, making it the perfect destination for a romantic dinner or a special occasion (if you are looking for a place to pop the question, this is the ideal spot for that).
Food:
Now let’s talk about the food. The menu at SALON is a fusion of flavors inspired by both local and international cuisines from the chef’s travels and upbringing. Each dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavors. From the starters to the desserts, every bite was a culinary delight. We opted to try out the Journey menu plus the pairing. The Journey Menu showcases the restaurant’s commitment to quality, creativity, and exceptional taste.
From the tantalizing starters to the sumptuous mains and exquisite desserts, every dish reflects the passion and skill of the culinary team. The Journey menu is priced at R1100 per person, with a condensed version of four courses – The Explorer – available at R550 per person. These menus are also available as a pairing menu with dishes matched to one of the small-batch wines, beers and saké. Or choose signature cocktails from SALON’s carefully curated drinks collection.

Service:
The service at Cape Town Salon was exceptional. The team was attentive and knowledgeable, providing excellent recommendations and ensuring that my dining experience was top-notch. They were also accommodating to dietary restrictions and had a good understanding of the menu, making it easier to make choices.
Pricing:
In terms of pricing, SALON is in the upper range, but considering the quality of the food, service, and overall experience, it is worth every rand. This restaurant is an ideal place for a special celebration or a romantic evening.
Bookings:
One thing worth mentioning is that it is advisable to make a reservation in advance, especially during peak hours, as the restaurant tends to get quite busy.
