SPEND YOUR 67 MINUTES CLEANING OUT YOUR CLOSET
This Mandela Day, spend your 67 minutes cleaning out your closet. If you’ve been meaning to ‘Marie Kondo’ your cupboard, this is your moment! Vintage with Love
Hosted by KIDZ2KIDZ – a non-profit that incorporates fashion and charity into one stylish venture – is asking Capetonians to donate their gently-worn clothes, designer pieces or accessories, and to drop them off at The Watershed in the V&A Waterfront on Saturday, 16 July.
All donations received this Mandela Day will be sold at the Vintage with Love store, online or at their famous big sale happening in September, and all the proceeds generated from the sale of the items will go to literacy and education charities across the country. Only R50 keeps a child in a learning programme for a week.
Debbie Smuts, organizer at Vintage with Love, says, “We all have those items and accessories we no longer wear. This Mandela Day, these could make a massive difference to a little one’s life. According to Associate Professor Nic Spaull, on South Africa’s current trajectory, it’ll take 80 years before all 10-year-olds can read for meaning. We’ve raised over R7 million to champion literacy through our Vintage sales. We’re hoping to raise more money this year that will assist in benefitting children across the nation.”
Gently worn means clothes that they are second-hand but have no evidence of wear or tear. By donating your once loved fabulous fashion items, you are donating to a great cause that helps hundreds of children across South Africa.
Debbie concludes, “Clothes are often sentimental and special. They carry meaning for many of us. That can make it hard to let them go. But the process is made much easier when you think that the sale of your items could help teach a child to read. Consider doing a closet clean-out for the best possible cause, then treat yourself to some of our stunning designer pieces, also in support of our young people – it’s the perfect excuse for some shopping spoils!”
If you no longer need it, wear it, use it and love it, Vintage with Love will find it a home. You can drop off your items and receive free coffee from Pure Good on Saturday, 16 July at The Watershed in the V&A Waterfront between 10:00 and 17:00.
Other drop off shops are: Mullers Optometrist, Orms, Desray stores and Habits boutique.
