State-of-the-Art Science and Mentorship

The Next Generation Scientist Program aims to build scientific and leadership capability in emerging countries by enhancing the knowledge and skills of talented and motivated scientists, and by facilitating transfer of learnings to their local scientific communities upon return home. The internship is an intensive 3-month program hosted at the Novartis research site in Basel, Switzerland, designed to foster both scientific and professional development. Guided by Novartis mentors, interns work on a jointly-agreed upon, precompetitive scientific or clinical research project and also participate in a leadership development program designed to enhance their decision-making and communication skills. At the conclusion of the program, interns receive certification and accreditation from the University of Basel. More than 120 interns from 24 countries have participated since the program’s inception in 2011.
