REVIEW: Jack Black Brings Back Lumberjack Amber Ale for a Limited ReleaseREVIEW:
This week, we had the pleasure of receiving a delightful PR drop from our friends at Jack Black beer. We’re always excited to receive such thoughtful packages, and let’s be honest, who isn’t? For those unfamiliar with the brand, Jack Black is a local craft brewery that emerged in 2007 when Ross and Meg McCulloch, the founders, began personally selling their beers at Cape Town’s Old Biscuit Mill farmer’s market. Fueled by their passion and determination, they embarked on a mission to brew exceptional beers at a time when the concept of “craft beer” was still unfamiliar to most South Africans.

The PR drop served as an announcement of the highly anticipated return of their beloved classic, Lumberjack Amber Ale, now available as a seasonal limited release. Originally introduced as a permanent fixture in Jack Black’s specialty range, the decision was made in 2021 to transform Lumberjack into a seasonal delight. This year marks the first time the brewery is launching Lumberjack in its limited edition form, packaged in its iconic original design. This nostalgic touch adds an extra layer of excitement for long-time fans of this cult favorite, as well as for those eager to delve into the world of craft beer. With fewer than 300 cases available, it’s truly a coveted treat.
In true “The Guide” style, we took on the challenge and tried it out. Here’s what we thought: Lumberjack Amber Ale is a beer packed with intense flavors designed to captivate true beer enthusiasts. If you typically prefer lighter or milder beers, the robustness of this brew might initially overwhelm your palate. As self-professed Castle Lite drinkers, we found it to be a bold departure from our usual choices. However, we can assure you that with every sip, the taste grows more enticing.
Each sip delivers a punch of bold malt flavors that harmoniously blend with the pine-citrus notes, creating a well-balanced aftertaste. The packaging itself is a testament to the brand’s commitment to standing out in the beer market, featuring a unique design and a funky logo. The beer is conveniently available in four-packs, promoting responsible consumption.
In summary, Lumberjack Amber Ale is a beverage tailored for those who appreciate the distinctiveness of beers like Guinness or Castle Lager Milk Stout. It’s a delightful indulgence that beckons beer enthusiasts to savor its rich character and enjoy a unique drinking experience.
