Yonder Hill Y-range; why not? Try it!!

Owner at Yonder Hills Wines, Frikkie Naudé, had a dream to make a top quality wine range at an affordable price.  Since the first bottle of Y-range wines were bottled in 2004 this dream became a reality and there were no looking back.

Winemaker Abé Beukes built on this tradition and currently the range consists of two wines: Y-Merlot 2014 and Y-Sauvignon Blanc 2015 both at a mere R45 per bottle. Now ask yourself the question: “Why not?”

Why Y-range?

The Y on the bottle is for Yonder Hill, but this funky design led to a few tales over the years: the Mercedes Benz logo, the South African flag turned on its side, the G-string wine and as a very enthusiastic client once said; Yes, yes, yes bring me another case.

Yrange Merlot 2014

The Y-Merlot is 100% Merlot and is made from two different regions (Stellenbosch & Robertson) and four different vineyards. The idea is to obtain fresh fruity flavours and easy drinkability.

The style of winemaking can be tasted in the wine; it is a soft, easy, smooth style, with no harsh tannins. The grapes ripened mid season and fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks with regular pump over’s to extract maximum colour from the skins.  After malolactic fermentation 33% of the wine was wood matured in older barrels.

The Y-Merlot is a juicy, easy drinking wine showing mulberry and strawberry aromas and is soft on

the pallet.

At a mere R45 per bottle, why not?

Y-Sauvignon Blanc

Yrange SB2015

The Y-Sauvignon Blanc is a 100% Sauvignon Blanc wine.  To obtain a certain style for the new Y-Sauvignon Blanc, grapes had to be sourced.  These grapes were found in one of the best Sauvignon Blanc producing areas in the Western Cape, Darling.

The wine was made in a reductive style to retain the fresh, fruity flavours of the grapes.  It was kept on the fine lees for 6 months for complexity and balance.

The Y-Sauvignon Blanc is an easy drinking wine with an abundance of tropical fruit flavours as well as gooseberries and litchis on the nose.  The pallet has a nice full fruit taste with a crisp finish.

All of the above for only R45 a bottle, why not?
