WHAT TO DO DURING THE LONG WEEKEND IN CAPE TOWN

If you have been wondering what to do over the long weekend, a visit to the Vintage Ideas Market is an absolute must.  Take a step back in time and enjoy the nostalgic theme of “Those were the days”.  This treasure trove of all things vintage will be taking place at the gorgeous Simondium’s Country Lodge from Thursday, 27 April until Monday, 1 May.

This year’s market promises to be a collector’s dream with exquisite glass, jewellery, porcelain and fashion items for sale.  The market will feature many regulars as well as some exciting newcomers with fantastic vintage and vintage-inspired products.  Antjies Handmade Naturals, Ebony & Ivory Ribbons, KOKA Laser Artistry, Persian Carpet Kingdom, Plan B Vintage, Simply Bee, The Macramé Project and Trousseau Vintage Home Linens are definitely worth a visit if you want to add that special vintage look to your home.  This year, there will also be something special for the boys with the Petrol Clothing Company making their first appearance at vintage with their quirky T-shirts, hoodies and sweaters.

The deli will once again be stocked like a traditional pantry with an assortment of homemade and artisanal products.  Try some delicious brittle and crunchies from of Mari’s FudgeLook out for some special or some tempting sweets from Koeksister Company.

Visitors, who have worked up an appetite during all the shopping, can pop in at the Gordyntjies restaurant for some nourishing bistro-style dishes or enjoy some Mexican street food, food truck creations and even traditional roosterkoek fresh off the fire.  A special kiddies menu and play area will take care of the young ones.

The lush gardens are the perfect place to relax and enjoy live music and a glass of wine from Backsberg Estate Cellars.  Background music will create the perfect ambience, while live performances include saxophone player Mario de Goede of Golden Oldies on Thursday and several other performers during the weekend.

The Simondium’s Country Lodge is located along the R45 between Paarl and Franschhoek – easily accessible from Cape Town and Stellenbosch.  The Vintage Ideas market will be open from 09h30 to 16h00 from Thursday to Sunday and until 15h00 on Monday, 1 May 2017.  Tickets are R30 for adults, while children under the age of eighteen enter for free.   Ample parking and security are available on site.
