We finally got to watch the eagerly awaited DC Comics-based movie Suicide Squad! With A-List actors like Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto and Viola Davis.
What could be more fun than watching bad people do bad things in the service of good?
Suicide Squad has all the ingredients needed to make a superhero film. Cool characters, massive action sequences, witty and perfectly timed dialogue and lots of special effects thrown in as well.
Suicide Squad in a nutshell: A group of criminals are recruited by the US government to rid the world of an otherworldly menace that can, and will destroy humanity if allowed to run unchecked. To tame them Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) tempts the incarcerated super criminals with shortened prison sentences – and, to be sure no one steps out of line, they inject each of them with remote explosive devices that can detonate at any time.
Characters are surprisingly funny with lots of jokes and one-liners that are a total hit even Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang has a likable presence. Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller are the stand out performances.
Will Smith does a great job as Deadshot. He is one of the few characters in the movie who has been given any bit of characterization and emotion.
I did enjoy watching the new portrayal of Joker; he brought some panache to the legendary character. But his appearances were few, made no sense in the context of the plot and felt very random. The trailer makes it look like The Joker is the villain but he isn’t which is really disappointing and essentially the Joker never feels integrated into the storyline but rather seems like a special guest star.
Suicide Squad runs 123 minutes and is Rated PG – 13 for sequences of violence and action throughout, disturbing behaviour, suggestive content and language. Now playing in IMAX, 3D, and regular 2D at Ster- Kinerkor theatres.
Overall the movie is a great watch. With all things said Suicide Squad is better than the 26 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. We are giving it a 3.5/5
