With Summer slowly approaching, Lulo Café (Sikhululo Maliwa) raises the temperature a notch by launching a new player in South Africa’s fastest growing indie label space, Cadence Cartel.
Founded by Veteran House DJ Lulo Café and his brother, Mawe2 (Mawethu Maliwa); the record label aims to change, invest and improve the landscape of South African music and usher in new talent.
While they focus on producing, releasing and exposing the country’s talent; Cadence Cartel also aims to contribute to the new wave of independently owned record labels that play a massive role in assuring that the rights of musicians are a priority.
“What inspired Cadence Cartel is a life long dream I’ve had on being a major contributor in music and also being part of the authors in new ways of doing business in the music industry…independence in music has become a feasible path and I saw an opportunity about 2 years ago but I felt I needed to know more than I did then…and the decision was very well thought and there is still so much more to learn and do.” Said Lulo Cafe
Some of the talents the label houses include:
- Singer and songwriter, Lu
- DJ and producer, Mmino
- Soulful vocalist, Mr. January
South Africans can also expect releases from the label’s founders, Lulo Café & Mawe2 – who’s also a talented rapper and producer. The journey begins with the collaboration below:
